    Senior Manager, Media Relations

    The American Gaming Association (AGA) seeks a Senior Manager, Media Relations to manage the AGA’s earned media efforts. As an integral member of the strategic communications team, the senior manager is primarily responsible for advancing the industry through trade, regional, and national media engagement.

    Reporting to the vice president, strategic communications and responsibility, the senior manager works to promote the dynamic gaming industry through proactive communications efforts. We are looking for an energetic team player with strong self-management skills and experience working at an association or agency.

    Key Areas of Responsibility

    • Build and maintain relationships with reporters, editors, and outlets.
    • Pitch and secure regular coverage in trade, regional, and national outlets to advance the industry narrative, ensure AGA inclusion in topical news coverage, and advance storylines that support AGA advocacy efforts.
    • Write and edit compelling media materials including, but not limited to, pitches, messaging, press releases, advisories, letters to the editor, op-eds, and guest columns.
    • Manage incoming inquiries on a timely basis by determining relevance, recommending appropriate response, and navigating internal approvals.
    • Prepare messaging and materials to brief AGA spokespeople for all media opportunities.
    • Speak on background to frame the industry’s narrative.
    • Lead media monitoring and identify actionable trends and ensure accurate representation of AGA messaging and research.
    • Build and maintain media lists.
    • Contribute to social media content development and management.
    • Contribute to industry communications and email development.
    • Support the Vice President, Strategic Communications and Responsibility and Senior Vice President, Strategic Communications with ad hoc media and communication projects.

    Experience, Education & Skills

    • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • Three to six years’ media relations and communication experience.
    • Preferred background with an association or agency.
    • Strong written communication skills with the ability to tailor a message to a variety of audiences.
    • Concise, persuasive writer with demonstrable experience in writing and placing op-eds, letters to the editor, and thought leadership content.
    • Strong project management skills including the ability to effectively juggle multiple, shifting priorities.
    • Superior organization skills and attention to detail.
    • Effective presence with senior-level leaders.
    • Command of AP Style and familiarity with Cision, TVEyes, and WordPress.

    Senior Director, Government Relations

    As a key member of the government relations team, the senior director plays an instrumental role in helping the AGA support its members policy goals in the states. Reporting to the senior vice president of government relations, they will closely monitor legislative and regulatory developments that may impact the U.S. gaming industry and work with AGA members to identify opportunities for strategic engagement to advance the industry’s collective interests. The preferred candidate will have experience in government relations, lobbying, public-policy, legislative, and/or political environments. The ideal candidate will have some prior experience working within the gaming industry and/or working on state legislative/regulatory policy.

    Key Areas of Responsibility

    • Build and maintain close working relationships with AGA member company government relations representatives.
    • Research, analyze and provide guidance on legislative and regulatory policy impacting the U.S. gaming industry.
    • Proactively cultivate relationships with organizations representing state policymakers, including gaming regulators, attorneys general, legislators and governors.
    • Develop and cultivate constructive partnerships with corporate, community and non-governmental organization stakeholders.
    • Work closely with allied associations and industry coalitions to advance common-cause issues.
    • Identify creative opportunities to raise the visibility of AGA’s priorities with policymakers and other stakeholders through events, media coverage and educational outreach.
    • Assist with managing outside consultants and subject matter experts.
    • Additional duties and projects as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum 7-10 years of professional work experience in legislative, regulatory, government relations, and/or trade association role.
    • Bachelor’s degree required – preferably in the fields of political science, public policy, or communications.
    • Juris Doctor strongly preferred
    • Knowledge of state level legislative and regulatory process.
    • Proven record of successfully developing, directing, and managing multiple projects.
    • Previous experience at a trade association a plus.
    • Experience with gaming industry or other highly-regulated industry a plus.

    Skills

    • Ability to analyze and effectively communicate complex policy issues.
    • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to think creatively and strategically.
    • Ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
    • Ability to delegate and manage others effectively.
