Position Overview:  The public affairs manager provides support to the public affairs department’s two core functions: communications and government relations.

Key areas of responsibility: Communications responsibilities include compiling news clips each morning and as needed throughout the day; materials development (presentations, web and social content, industry updates, etc.); proofreading written communications; managing and updating media and industry lists; and assisting with communications for AGA events, including Get to Know Gaming and annual trade show in Las Vegas, among other duties. Government Relations responsibilities include assisting with communications to Capitol Hill; providing support for meetings of AGA’s public policy committee; and providing day-to-day support for AGA’s lobbyists and issue experts.

Experience & Education:

  • 1-3 years relevant professional experience
  • Bachelor degree required – related field preferred

Vice President of State and Regulatory Affairs

The American Gaming Association (AGA) is seeking a vice president of state and regulatory affairs to support the organization’s state policy and regulatory agenda through aggressive advocacy. This is a newly created position – offering the ideal candidate the unique opportunity to put their stamp on the organization and industry. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the AGA is the premier national trade group representing the $240 billion U.S. casino gaming industry, which supports 1.7 million jobs in 40 states. It is the mission of the AGA to achieve sound policies and regulations consistent with casino gaming’s modern appeal and vast economic contributions.

Position Summary

As a key member of the AGA’s public affairs team, the vice president of state and regulatory affairs has responsibility for paving the way for innovation in the casino gaming industry by advancing a consistent, modern regulatory environment, driving consensus among our members for progressive state legislative policy and leveraging AGA research to accurately inform casino expansion discussions. The vice president of state and regulatory affairs will lead AGA’s Next Generation Gaming initiative in coordination with input from the AGA’s Public Policy Committee. The vice president reports directly to the senior vice president of public affairs. He/she will lead the executional elements related to building, fostering and maintaining relationships with gaming regulators in the U.S. and developing and implementing regulatory change that fosters growth within the industry. The ideal candidate has experience working with state regulatory agencies, state legislatures, or in state advocacy. Prior experience working in or around the gaming industry a plus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, engage and drive AGA’s Next Generation Gaming Task Force to develop regulatory recommendations that promote growth, innovation and modernization of U.S. gaming regulations.
  • Organize and convene regulator roundtables, and information sharing opportunities to align and promote gaming’s growth and AGA’s Next Generation Gaming policies.  
  • Drive consensus among AGA’s members on state gaming policy and develop tactical plans to achieve results.
  • Work closely with VP of strategic communications to develop and execute communications plans that promote informed discussions about state casino gaming expansion.  
  • Work in partnership and manage relationships, where applicable, with state gaming associations.
  • Assist in relationship building with national state and regulatory associations in support of AGA’s public policy objectives.
  • Effectively and efficiently assist in managing any consultants and vendors providing regulatory services to the association.
  • Work closely with AGA communications, research, ally development and government relation’s staff to ensure Next Generation Gaming policies and modernization of state laws and regulations delivers high value to members and drives the AGA’s strategic priorities.

Experience/Qualifications

The ideal candidate possesses:

  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience with a history of progressive achievement and advancement in a similar role.
  • Bachelor’s degree required – preferably in the fields of political science, public policy or communications.
  • An advanced degree, experience in the commercial casino industry, trade associations or similar advocacy organizations is a plus.    
  • Track record of high integrity, good judgment, confidentiality, and discretion.
  • Excellent research, writing, editing, proofreading, presentation and interpersonal skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong data and analytical skills including the ability to present complex data in terms non-specialized audiences can understand.

Meetings Coordinator

The American Gaming Association (AGA) meetings coordinator supports the organization’s guiding principles of building an inclusive membership that’s representative of the industry in its totality, providing open and transparent process on AGA decisions that impact casino-gaming industry and working collaborative to promote a pro-gaming agenda.

As a member of the industry services team, the coordinator plays an essential role in supporting AGA-member programs. Reporting to the senior director of member relations, and in partnership with AGA industry services team, this leader works to elevate AGA’s member and industry events, supports educational program and on-site logistics for the AGA’s family of Global Gaming Expo (G2E) events and ensures accurate attendance list, participation and database management.

Primary Responsibilities
 

Member Event Development and Execution

  • Manages all event logistics, including all vendors and contractors, as well as on-site support for AGA staff and setup and post-event reconciliation.
  • Collaborates with staff to leverage existing assets and execute events and programs in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Executes logistical needs for AGA Board-related events, including Board and committee meetings, CEO Roundtable and other current/future meetings and events.
  • Supports related event communications information, including save the date, RSVP, before-you-go details, run of show, etc.
  • Reviews and assists with the development of event invitation lists to ensure quality over quantity, and coordinates the attendance of key members as directed.
  • Identifies, solicits and confirms speakers; manages speakers’ needs, leading up to and on-site during events.
  • Fact checks attendee list, corresponding collateral and ensures safe delivery/setup on-site.

Industry Event Support

  • Supports the Global Gaming Expo (G2E) management team, as needed, including conference development, show logistics and fulfillment of sponsorship commitments.
  • Provides support to ancillary AGA events, including the Hall of Fame program, third-party experts, regulatory roundtable, and others.
  • Provides leadership and support for ensuring member engagement through AGA events.

Experience/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Association management and/or gaming industry experience is a plus.

Director, Media Relations

Position Overview:

The Director, Media Relations has primary responsibility for ensuring gaming industry interests and the AGA are positively and routinely positioned in news media. This includes aggressive, proactive engagement with gaming trades, traditional regional and national outlets, and digital outlets that help tell the positive story of gaming; event-specific media relations for AGA’s annual event (Global Gaming Expo [G2E]); identifying new opportunities/angles for positioning that supports advocacy positions; ensuring AGA inclusion in topical news coverage; original content generation and placement; and supporting the development and implementation of comprehensive, paid and organic communication campaigns.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Written Materials – drafting press releases, advisories, op-eds, LTEs, talking points, memos, etc.
  • Media – pitching, proactively building relationships with key outlets and reporters, managing reactive media inquiries and record-setting activities, speaking on background and on the record.
  • Social Media – growing AGA’s social media presence on existing and new channels
  • Events – organizing events as part of AGA initiatives.

Experience & Education:

  • Minimum four years of relevant professional experience.

Director, Industry Programs

Position Overview: The Director, Industry Programs, is responsible for designing and executing on AGA’s education strategy, including identifying and implementing learning/programs/speakers that align with AGA’s strategic goals and developing increased channels for accessing AGA member-only resources. Effective project management and knowledge of digital assets is a critical component of this role, as is effectively managing third-party partnerships and other relationships, including a positive working relationship with our trade show partners.

This position manages one person, Marketing Manager, and reports to the Vice President, Industry Relations.

Key areas of responsibility:

Learning and Engagement – Ensure AGA education programs and content are best-in-class and driving measurable member value.

  • Design an education strategy aligned with AGA’s strategic priorities.
  • Identify and build events and other assets (including digital) in support of member learning and participation.
  • Keep abreast of current trends and best practices in and out of the industry.
  • Implement processes to ensure member feedback is solicited and used in the development of programs.
  • Design success metrics to help AGA measure value of programs (i.e., user feedback, participation, etc.).
  • Build and maintain repository of accessible, credible, best-in-class speakers.
  • Take an active role in committee engagement with guidance from the VP.
  • Consider opportunities to include learnings and synergies with Global Gaming Expo (G2E), AGA’s two flagship events in North America and Asia with attendance of 26,000 and 6,000, respectively with guidance from the VP.

Technology – Leverage technology to ensure maximum participation across all user groups.

  • Continually assess opportunities to introduce new and cost-appropriate technologies that add value or ease of use to our programs.
  • Work with AGA communications team on website design, with a focus on delivering/providing member-only education and other content.
  • Work with third-party partners to identify and effectively implement technology solutions.

Strategic Alliances – Work collaboratively within the Industry Services department to develop/implement programs in support of new revenue streams and AGA’s partnership strategy. Maximize opportunities for members to learn and benefit from the work produced within the Public Affairs department.

Project Management – plan, budget, oversee and document all aspects of projects related to AGA’s member engagement and education in close collaboration with VP and other integral stakeholders.

  • Understand the strategic aims/vision of the association and develop the road map and tactical components necessary for achievement of those aims.
  • Apply the appropriate amount of research and diligence in the vendor/partner selection process to complete any given project.
  • Solicit input from necessary internal and external stakeholders to the extent necessary/helpful in the effort to collaborate on a project’s development, generally engage a broader sounding board. Use good sense and discretion on extent, as the internal project management lead.
  • Ensure adequate drive and reasonable timelines, budget and other key inputs are met in order to see projects through to completion.

Experience & Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Experience managing others required.
  • Project management experience required.
  • Experience with website maintenance and other digital assets preferred.
  • Experience in gaming or hospitality a plus.
  • Experience in associations preferred.
