  • A Look Back

From my days growing up in Reno to seeing the specter that is Macau today, I can safely say I have had a front row seat to the growth and maturity of the casino gaming business. I’ve worked with most of the giants of the industry and have and continue to call most of them friends. So, it has been especially gratifying that for the last 18 years I have had the privilege to help safeguard and advocate for commercial casinos in Washington and across the country, and it has been an honor to represent the interests of the men and women of this industry.

  • State of the States 2013: Growing Today, Growing Tomorrow

The 2013 edition of State of the States: The AGA Survey of Casino Entertainment, which will be released this month, has good news for the commercial casino industry. On the strength of a third consecutive year with increased rates of growth, national gross gaming revenues for 2012 reached their second-highest level in history – behind only 2007, the last year before the recession hit. Add in the impacts of direct gaming tax revenues, casino employment and wages, and a growing gaming equipment manufacturing sector and one can see that both the present and the future of the U.S.

  • Progress on Regulatory Reform

Of the many things in our business that make me proud, chief among them is that we have the finest regulatory system of any industry in the nation. This is due, in part, to the collaborative role our companies play in forming this framework, which benefits not just them, but also regulators, customers and the industry from top to bottom.

Latest Letters to the Editor

  • The Washington Post

    Dear Editor:

In your June 1 story, “For Maryland’s gambling addicts, new casinos amplify the ‘siren call’,” writer J. Freedom du Lac misses an opportunity to truly inform readers on the important issue of gambling addiction and instead cites outdated and inaccurate studies, uses out-of-date terminology, and conflates issues of pathological and problem gambling.

  • NBC Chicago

    Dear Editor:

The answer to the question posed by Edward McClelland’s May 14 editorial “Opinion: Are Casinos "City Ruiners"?” is a resounding “no.” But McClelland unfortunately squanders an opportunity to tell the U.S. commercial casino industry’s true success story and misleads readers in the process. The facts show that our sector has a positive impact across society, bringing new and multi-faceted entertainment options to cities while creating good jobs and opportunities for businesses.
