The American Gaming Association will host a panel next week at Rivers Casino & Resort focusing on the effect casinos can have on local small businesses.

The panel is part of an American Gaming Small Business Jobs Tour hosted by the gaming association, which is a trade group representing the casino industry.

Panelists include Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy, Schenectady Metroplex Development Authority Chairman Ray Gillen, Rivers Casino & Resort General Manager Mary Cheeks and Proctors CEO Philip Morris, among others.

The panel comes on the heels of a February report touting the ways in which nearby casinos can boost area businesses. The report, put out by the American Gaming Association, focuses on case studies in Massachusetts, Iowa, Maryland, Oklahoma and Louisiana.
