Table game revenues are up statewide, but not so much for our local casinos, according to figures released Thursday by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

Revenues grew by 5.3 percent statewide during October to $71.2 million. That is up $3.6 million over a year ago.

But some northeastern Pennsylvania casinos had a bumpy ride during the month.

Wilkes-Barre’s Mohegan Sun Pocono saw revenues from table games grow by 20 percent to $4.6 million. But Mount Airy Casino Resort’s revenues fell 1.6 percent to $3.8 million last month, a $60,000 decline. And the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem saw table game revenue fall 10.3 percent to $16.8 million, a $1.9 million loss of revenues.

The state growth in table game revenues in October is a surprise since the month had one less Friday than a year ago. Fridays are high grossing days for casinos in the state, according to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board’s representative Richard McGarvey.

Total tax revenue for the state from table games during October was $11.5 million with an average of 1,218 tables in operation statewide on a daily basis. That amounts to an average of $9,442 in tax revenues generated by each table game. The state taxes table games revenue at 16 percent.

It’s been a good year for table games in Pennsylvania. The state’s revenues for its 12 licensed casino are up over 6 percent to $711 million, generating about $114 million in taxes, or $6.5 million more in taxes for the state this year. Only one of the 10 months recorded thus far this year didn’t show year-to-year gains.

Mount Airy is down 8.9 percent in table games revenues this year, topping out at $35.5 million in revenues for the 10 months. That followed a strong year in 2015, with gains of nearly 10 percent.

The Sands is up more than 8 percent this year, reporting 10-month revenues of $191 million. And despite its strong showing in October, the Mohegan Sun is down more than 6 percent to $38.6 million in gross revenues for the year.
