NHL’s Consideration of Las Vegas Reflects Progressive Views of Casino Gaming

    June 24, 2015

Washington, D.C. – American Gaming Association (AGA) President and CEO Geoff Freeman released the following statement after the NHL announced it is considering expansion, including potentially in Las Vegas:

“Today’s announcement reflects a progressive view of casino gaming and marks a stark contrast with the NFL’s recent decision to force the cancellation of a fantasy sports event at a Las Vegas casino. We applaud the NHL for considering Las Vegas – a city known for its diverse and sophisticated entertainment offerings – and recognizing that gaming is a heavily regulated, Fortune 500 industry approved by 90 percent of Americans.

“The NHL and other professional teams already operate in tandem with casinos in many leading cities across the country. Las Vegas is among the top travel and tourism destinations in the world and is therefore deserving of the same consideration.”

About AGA: The American Gaming Association is the premier national trade group representing the $240 billion U.S. casino industry, which supports 1.7 million jobs in 40 states.  AGA members include commercial and tribal casino operators, suppliers and other entities affiliated with the gaming industry.  It is the mission of the AGA to be the single most effective champion of the industry, relentlessly protecting against harmful and often misinformed public policies, and paving a path for growth, innovation and reinvestment.
