Missouri gambling injects big boost into state’s economy

    December 17, 2014

Missouri casinos generated $2 billion in revenue in 2013, but their economic impact was much greater, The Kansas City Starreports.

For the first time, the American Gaming Association is taking a closer look at the economic impact of casinos. The association is looking beyond a casino’s direct employment, revenue and gaming taxes, and is considering other aspects, such as how casino employees spend their salaries to boost the economy.

Missouri casinos, for example, injected $3.4 billion into the state’s economy last year and were credited with reducing the state’s unemployment rate by 1 percent, according to the American Gaming Association report.

Kansas casinos injected $673 million into the local economy and reduced the state’s unemployment rate by half a percentage point.
