Coast casinos go pink in October

    October 18, 2014

Casinos in South Mississippi are joining businesses across the Coast raising awareness and money for breast cancer research in October.

Harrah’s Gulf Coast created a “Pink Zone,” where blackjack table felts have been switched from green to pink. Exterior lighting also glows a pale pink during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

“All month long, our bar and lounge, Mix & Mingle, will mix up some specialty libations,” said Shay Smith, marketing specialist. These cocktails come with the names Pink Warrior, Pink Plunge, Tickled Pink and Hooter Shooter and proceeds will be donated to The Pink Lotus Project, a local charity.

Inside the resort, IP is selling pink drink specials at CHILL, 32, tien, and Costa Cucina. The drinks — Cotton Candy Martinis, Cheesecake Martinis, Watermelon Lemon, Tinkerbell and Vegas Bomb — are $8 and $1 from each benefit the American Cancer Society.

The flowers at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino are always impressive, and during October “Beau Rivage’s atrium and shopping promenade are once again decorated in recognition of October’s breast cancer awareness,” said spokeswoman Mary Cracchiolo Spain. Pink flowers and orange pumpkins are scattered throughout the lobby, where a pink ribbon was created in flowers.

The pink poinsettias on display are “Love You Pink Euphorbia,” and are grown nationwide specifically for breast cancer aware

ness month, she said. The purple mums are known as “New York, New York” and the pink begonias are “Nelly Light Pink.”

Those who book a Pink Transformation Manicure for Breast Cancer Awareness Month will receive 25 percent off any OPI product at the Beau Rivage Spa.

Pink table games are back for the second year at Island View Casino in Gulfport for breast cancer awareness and Bo Toche, director of table games said customers love it. “They’re glad that we’re doing it,” he said. “It’s a good cause.”

The idea for the pink felt on the tables came last year from one of the casino’s vendors, Gaming Partners International. This year after five tables where covered in pink, shift manager Josie Tam made pink ribbons with the leftover felt to raise awareness.

“The majority of the employees are wearing pink ribbons to support it,” Toche said.

Players at Hard Rock Casino Biloxi can support the cause with a Pinktober promotion. Those who earn 400 base slot points on their player’s club card in a 24 hour period will go home wearing a Pinktober T-shirt from Hard Rock.
