Gaming Industry Encourages Employees, Patrons and the Public to Be Responsible. Get Educated. During Responsible Gaming Education Week

WASHINGTON—The American Gaming Association (AGA) and more than 100 casino and gaming companies across the nation are encouraging employees, patrons and the public to “Be Responsible. Get Educated.”during the ninth annual Responsible Gaming Education Week (RGEW), which begins today. The theme of this year’s event, scheduled for Aug. 7-11, expresses the gaming industry’s dedication to providing employees with thorough responsible gaming education and training throughout the year.

AGA Programs Raise More Than $290,000 for NCRG

WASHINGTON More than $290, 000 was donated to the National Center for Responsible Gaming (NCRG) this fall as a result of three American Gaming Association (AGA)-led fundraising programs. Providing the largest donation of the three was the 18th annual Gaming Hall of Fame Charity Dinner and Induction Ceremony, which this year raised nearly $125, 000 in support of the NCRG’s research and education initiatives.

AGA Sponsors Employee Responsible Gaming Poster and Essay Contest

WASHINGTON – In commemoration of the 10th anniversary of Responsible Gaming Education Week (RGEW), the American Gaming Association (AGA) is sponsoring an employee poster and essay contest that allows gaming employees at all levels to help create the annual industrywide campaign, which is scheduled for Aug. 6-10, 2007.

Casinos Across the Country Plan Activities to Recognize 10th Anniversary of Responsible Gaming Education Week

WASHINGTON—The American Gaming Association (AGA), National Center for Responsible Gaming (NCRG) and more than 100 casino and gaming companies across the country are mobilizing to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the annual Responsible Gaming Education Week (RGEW), which begins today. The theme of this year’s week, Responsible Gaming: In Your Own Words, focuses on how every member of the community has a role to play in promoting responsible gaming throughout the year.

AGA Events Raise More Than $230,000 For NCRG

WASHINGTON—More than $230,000 was donated to the National Center for Responsible Gaming (NCRG) in recent months as a result of two American Gaming Association (AGA)-led fundraising programs. Providing the greatest portion of the donation was the 19th annual Gaming Hall of Fame Charity Dinner and Induction Ceremony, which this year raised more than $155,000 in support of the NCRG’s research and education initiatives.

JCM/AGA Golf Classic Raises $100,000 for Gambling Research

WASHINGTON – The 10th annual JCM/AGA Golf Classic, a gaming industry fundraising event, raised a record $100,000 for the National Center for Responsible Gaming (NCRG) to help fund problem and youth gambling research and responsible gaming education programs. Since its debut 10 years ago, the event has raised $647,000 for the NCRG.

The tournament, held last month at Reese Jones-designed Cascata in Boulder City, Nev., was jointly sponsored by JCM Global and the American Gaming Association (AGA).

American Gaming Association Releases Updated Responsible Gaming Resource

WASHINGTON – The American Gaming Association (AGA) released the third edition of its Responsible Gaming Statutes and Regulations publication today.  The updated resource contains a compilation of statutes and regulations regarding responsible gaming in the 20 commercial and racetrack casino states.

Gaming Companies Use Responsible Gaming Education Week to Urge Employees and the Public to Talk About Responsible Gaming

WASHINGTON—The American Gaming Association (AGA), the National Center for Responsible Gaming (NCRG) and almost 100 casino and gaming companies across North America are coming together to encourage employees, patrons and the public to engage in a conversation about responsible gaming during the 11th annual Responsible Gaming Education Week (RGEW), which begins today. The theme of this year’s event, scheduled for Aug. 4-8, “Let’s Talk About Responsible Gaming” is aimed at encouraging employees to begin a conversation about responsible gaming at home, on the job and in the community.

Submitted Testimony to the Florida State Senate Committee on Regulated Industry

Mr. Chairman and distinguished members of the committee, thank you for the opportunity to submit testimony to your panel today. I realize that many of you may be unfamiliar with our industry, and I always appreciate the opportunity to demystify our business.

For those of you who don’t know about my organization, I’d like to briefly explain what the American Gaming Association is and give you an overview of the industry we represent.

Dear Editor,

There is absolutely no hard evidence to support the assertion that the economic recession has brought about an increase in disordered gambling (“Problem gambling apparently rising as recession deepens, experts say;” May 11).

In fact, U.S. gaming revenues have dropped precipitously since last July, indicating that consumers across the country are tightening their belts.
