Understanding the Games

Understanding how casino games work and the odds of winning are important parts of responsible gaming.  The gaming industry is committed to promoting transparency and educating the public about casino games.  The tools below are available in commercial casinos across the country and are valuable responsible gaming resources.

Slot machines are America’s most popular casino game, but most people who play them know little about how they work. “Taking the Mystery Out of the Machine: A Guide to Understanding Slot Machines” is a brochure that uses common language to explain how slot machines work and debunk many of the common myths players have about the most popular games in the casino.

Whether you play slots, craps, blackjack, roulette or any other game in a casino, it is important to remember that games of chance are based on random outcomes and always favor the casino. “The House Advantage: A Guide to Understanding the Odds” provides information about the advantage the casino has in various games — also known as the "house advantage." Beyond mathematical probabilities, the brochure covers other factors a player should take into account, such as the amount wagered, length of time spent playing a game and, to a degree, the level of a player's skill at certain games. Finally, it discusses some of the common myths associated with gambling that should be understood before betting on any casino game.
