A gaming compact between the Mashpee Wampanoag and Massachusetts is on its way to the state legislature after sitting in committee since April. A study by Union Gaming Research Macau predicts Japan will levy a tax of 10% on gambling proceeds if the country decides to expand gambling. Local governments in Japan could also levy taxes of up to 10%. However, the total tax rate of up to 20% would still be around half of the taxes levied on gambling in Macau. The Illinois Gaming Board will hear a proposal next week to keep the state's casinos open 24 hours. The Illinois Casino Gaming Association, which represents six of the state's 10 casinos, is spearheading the initiative for round-the-clock betting. "We'll hire more people, plus the state will make more money and we will make more money," said Tom Swoik, executive director of the association. Selectmen in Milford, Mass., signed an agreement on Monday with Foxwoods for a proposed casino in the town. Twin River Casino in Lincoln, R.I., has received approval from the Rhode Island Lottery to add more table games. The casino plans to increase the number of table games from 66 to 80.
