The awards program, established by the National Center for Responsible Gaming (NCRG), will honor outstanding contributions to the study of gambling and gambling related problems. Given exclusively on the scientific merits of nominees, the awards will be announced and presented annually at the conference sponsored by the NCRG and the Institute for Research on Pathological Gambling and Related Disorders.
This year's program will be held at the 2002 conference, Dec. 8-10 at The Mirage hotel-casino in Las Vegas. Award categories include a "Young Investigator Award," which will recognize excellence in scientific contributions in the field of gambling studies by researchers who have received an advanced professional degree within the last 10 years, and a "Senior Investigator Award," which will honor investigators whose work has led to important advancements, discoveries or developments in the field of gambling related research. Prizes of up to $5,000 will be awarded, as well as travel expenses to the 2002 and 2003 conferences.
An independent committee of distinguished leaders in the field of addictions and gambling research is overseeing the program.
The awards program is sponsored by Argosy Gaming Company; Boyd Gaming Corporation; Harrah's Entertainment, Inc.; Mandalay Resort Group; MGM MIRAGETM; and Station Casinos, Inc.
