The Institute for Research on Pathological Gambling and Related Disorders recently announced that it will begin accepting letters of intent to apply for grants for behavioral and social science research on disordered gambling behavior. The grants, part of the Institute's extramural research program, are open to educational, medical and research institutions worldwide. Schools, divisions and departments of Harvard University, including affiliated hospitals, are not eligible to apply.
Although applications in every area of behavioral and social science research will receive consideration, the Institute will give priority to research focused on treatment outcome; natural and self-guided recovery; sub-clinical epidemiology; resilient and vulnerable population segments; screening instruments; comorbidity; and measuring social and economic costs and benefits.
Funding for the grants program comes from the National Center for Responsible Gaming (NCRG). Since 1996, the NCRG has awarded more than $8 million in grants for research on gambling disorders.
The deadline for letters of intent is Oct. 1. Applicants who are selected to submit full applications will be notified no later than Nov. 1.
The request for applications, including instructions for preparing the letter of intent, is posted on the Institute's Web site. For more information, contact Christine Reillyat 617-384-9028.
