In 2006, while transferring at the Dallas airport from his flight from London to one destined for Costa Rica, David Carruthers, the British former CEO of BetOnSports.com, was arrested.
In early April, Carruthers entered a plea of guilty to a single charge of conspiring to violate the federal Wire Act. His plea agreement, entered in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, specifies that he will not appeal any prison sentence of 33 months or less. United States v. Carruthers, No. S5-4:06CR00337 CEJ (E.D. Mo.).
The federal prosecution in St. Louis will continue against others related to BetOnSports, including founder Gary Kaplan, who has been detained in a local jail for almost three years. Carruthers agreed to testify against his former colleagues.
