GAMING EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURING

Gaming equipment manufacturing is an important and sometimes overlooked sector of the gaming industry.  It includes suppliers of electronic gaming devices, systems, table games, key components and support products and services for the gaming industry.  Gaming equipment manufacturing is a global industry with companies based in the United States and abroad and operating around the world.

During 2008, the gaming equipment manufacturing sector of the U.S. gaming industry made significant contributions to the overall U.S. economy, proving to be a growth area during these challenging economic times.  Research conducted by Applied Analysis for the Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers (AGEM) and reported in the 2009 State of the States: The AGA Survey of Casino Entertainment reveals that, in 2008, the U.S. gaming equipment manufacturing sector produced $12.7 billion in economic output (revenues), employed 29,600 people and paid salaries and wages of an estimated $2.0 billion.  The average annual salary within the industry was $68,300.

Direct revenues increased by 6.7 percent compared to 2007 figures. Expansions within the industry reflect both the increased demand for gaming-related equipment and market expectations for continued casino expansion.  Direct employment increased by 5.0 percent and wage and salary figures saw an increase of 5.3 percent over 2007 figures.

Data reported by AGEM also show that members of the gaming equipment manufacturing sector provide substantial benefits to their employees. More than four out of five (84.6 percent) gaming equipment manufacturers sponsor health care plans that cover more than three-quarters of their employees, and more than three-quarters (76 percent) cover more than half of their employees with employer-sponsored retirement plans.  Equipment manufacturers also create ripple effects in the communities where they operate, as 89.4 percent make at least some purchases from local vendors.

Many gaming equipment manufacturers are members of both AGEM and the American Gaming Association (AGA) and participate with casino operators in industrywide responsible gaming, diversity and philanthropy programs.
