Staff Bios : Dorothy Jackson Dorothy Jackson
Before joining the AGA, Jackson was a government relations consultant to the association and other clients, serving as a liaison to the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), the NAACP and minority businesses. Her Capitol Hill experience includes serving as senior professional adviser to Tom Foley, speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives; legislative counsel to Congressional Black Caucus Chairman Donald M. Payne (D-N.J.); and chief of staff for three members of Congress. She also worked at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee as director of voter participation. Prior to her Washington tenure, Jackson was an English teacher in the New York City public schools for 12 years as well as an education administrator. She also served in elective office as a judicial delegate for the 57th assembly district in Brooklyn, N.Y. Jackson has held various leadership positions, including president of the Brooklyn branch of the New York Urban League and founding president of the Council of African-American Administrative Assistants and Associates in the U.S. House of Representatives. In addition, she is a life member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and the NAACP, a board member of the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, and a member of the African American Leadership Council and Women’s Leadership Forum at the Democratic National Committee. Jackson earned a law degree from Seton Hall University and holds a bachelor’s degree from Lincoln University (Pa.). She also served as a fellow in the senior managers in government program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and at the John C. Stennis Center for Public Service. |
